The recipient only needs to tap the flower with a compatible phone. Their message will then appear on the screen.
It may sound technical, but it is simple to use.
What does NFC mean?
NFC stands for Near Field Communication.
It allows a phone to read information from a small chip when the phone is held close to it. You may already use NFC when you tap your phone to make a payment.
An NFC chip does not need a battery or charging. It stays inside the flower and is ready when the recipient wants to read the message.
What is an NFC gift message?
An NFC gift message is a short digital note connected to a physical gift.
Oh Bloom places a small NFC chip inside the crochet flower. The chip connects the recipient to the message you wrote.
This is not a gift card with money or store credit. It is a personal message that stays with the flower.
The message can include up to 200 characters. This is enough for a birthday wish, a thank you note or a few words from the heart.
How does it work?
Adding a message is easy.
- Choose an Oh Bloom crochet flower.
- Select Add Digital Gift Message on the product page.
- Write your message in the text box.
- Complete your order.
- Oh Bloom adds the message to the flower before sending it.
When the gift arrives, the recipient can tap the flower with their phone to read your words.
What happens when the flower is tapped?
The recipient should unlock their phone and hold it close to the flower.
On a compatible phone, a notice will appear on the screen. They can tap the notice to open the message.
The exact tap position may be different on each phone. Oh Bloom includes instructions with the flower to help the recipient.
Does the recipient need an app?
No app is needed.
The recipient only needs a compatible phone that can read NFC. Most recent smartphones include this feature, but the settings and tap position can be different between phones.
Who can read the message?
Anyone who has the flower and a compatible phone may be able to open the message.
For this reason, the message should be personal but not private. Do not include passwords, payment details, addresses or other sensitive information.
A birthday wish, loving note or shared memory is a good choice.
Can the message be changed?
If you need to change the message, contact Oh Bloom before the order is sent.
Once the flower has been prepared and sent, the message cannot be changed. Check the spelling and names before placing your order.
Does the NFC chip need power?
No. The chip does not need a battery, cable or charger.
It stays inside the flower without changing how the flower looks. The recipient can display the flower on a desk, shelf or bedside table and read the message again later.
